Citroen's Real Life Playstation GT Concept Car Hits London Streets

Citroen GT Gran Turismo PlaystationThe GT by Citroen, a concept supercar that bridges the gap between reality and fantasy as it was initially created for the virtual world of Sony's Gran Turismo 5 racing game, took to the streets of central London on Tuesday, June 23. In its first appearance in Britain, the 5-meter long GT prototype recreated part of the 'street circuit' featured in the Gran Turismo driving game sweeping through the Piccadilly circus, Regent Street, the Trafalgar Square and down the Mall past Buckingham Palace.

The curvaceous GT that could eventually enter a limited run production after the positive feedback from the public at last year's Paris motorshow, will be making its UK show debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed (3-5 July) and will climb the famous 1.16-mile Goodwood Hill as part of the Sunday Times Supercar Run.

2010 Citroen C3 Hatchback Scooped Uncovered During Dealer Presentation!

There's a reason why automakers don't permit cameras or modern mobile-phones at private presentations. Or at least they try not to allow because more often than not, someone will manage to sneak in a camera and take a few pics. And that's exactly what happened during a private showing of the all-new Citroen C3. These photos that where sent by an anonymous reader over to our colleagues at Worldcarfans, reveal the new C3's looks in detail.

2010 Citroen C3The French automaker's new proposal in the supermini category that will compete against the likes of the Ford Fiesta, VW Polo, Renault Clio and Fiat Grande Punto, preserves the basic lines of the outgoing C3 but borrows several styling cues from Citroen's latest models such as the DS3 concept's fascia and the C5's tail light design.

The new C3 shares the same platform architecture and mechanical hardware with the DS3, but the latter will be positioned more upscale rivaling cars like the MINI Cooper.

2010 Citroen C3The lineup will most likely include a 1.6 HDi turbo diesel with 90HP and 110Hp, and two gasoline units, a 1.4-liter with 95Hp and a 1.6-liter with 120Hp.

We'll see the new Citroen C3 in the metal at the Frankfurt motor show in September 2009, before it goes on sale across Europe before the end of the year.

GTbyCitroen to Run at Goodwood Festival of Speed

GTbyCitroen Supercar

Having already participated at both the Nurburgring and Le Mans 24 hour endurance races by completing 'honorary laps', Citroen's dramatic GTbyCitroen supercar concept will now make its UK debut climbing the famous 1.16-mile Goodwood Hill at this year's Festival of Speed on July 3. Initially created in collaboration with Polyphony as a digital supercar for the Gran Turismo5 racing game on Sony's Playstation 3, the GTbyCitroen came to life at last year's Paris Motorshow.

GTbyCitroen SupercarAnd even though Citroen had no intention of building the car for production, due to the extremely positive reactions from the public and the media alike, the French firm is now considering whether or not to go ahead with the GT building a limited run of a dozen or so models.

The aggressively styled French GT measures nearly five-meters in length (4.96m), and just over a meter high (1.09m). Special features include a wraparound windscreen that flows into the roof and on into the rear mobile airfoil, a flat underside, gullwing-style doors and diamond-effect 21 inch aluminum wheels. The concept version of the supercar uses electric motors but if it is to enter production, Citroen will use a conventional gasoline powertrain.

2010 Citroen C3 Hatchbacks Spied on the Road

What appears to be a convoy of camouflaged prototypes of the next generation Citroen C3 hatchback were caught on camera by a reader of the French car magazine, L'Auto-Journal. The low quality photos don't provide us with many details but the prototype's rear-end design suggests that the new C3 will maintain the basic lines of the current model.

Set to challenge the Ford Fiesta, Fiat Grande Punto, Renault Clio and their likes, Citroen's new supermini is expected to borrow several design cues from the C3 Picasso MPV as well as the more upscale DS3 Concept that is slated for production in early 2010.

All three Citroen models share the same architecture and engine range which includes a 1.6 HDi turbo diesel available in 90HP and 110Hp versions, and two gasoline units, a 1.4-liter with 95Hp and a 1.6-liter with 120Hp.

Though not officially confirmed, the new hatchback variant of the C3 is said to be unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September with European sales following in the next months.

Citroen Unveils New 240HP 3.0 HDi V6 Diesel for C5 and C6 Range

French carmaker Citroen just announced a new range-topping diesel engine for its C5 Sedan and Estate and C6 models. The replacement for the firm's 2.8-liter HDi V6 diesel has grown in size to 3.0-liters and now features a new, third-generation direct injection / common rail system. The 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 diesel produces an output of 240HP and a maximum torque of 450Nm or 331.9-lbs/ft at 1,600 regime rpm, up from the 2.7 HDi's 208HP and 440Nm.

As with the 2.8 HDi, the new 3.0 HDi V6 is coupled to a six-speed automatic gearbox. With the new powertrain, the C5 and C6 accelerate from standstill to 100km/h (62mph) in 7.9 and 8.5 seconds respectively

Despite the 32-horspower spike, Citroen said that fuel consumption and C02 emissions on both cars have been reduced by 12 to 15 percent over the outgoing models with the 2.7 HDi V6. According to the French carmaker, both the C5 and C6 3.0 HDi achieve an average fuel consumption of 7.4 liters of diesel per 100 km (31.8mpg US) with CO2 emissions of 195 g/km.

My Top 10 Concept Cars of 2010

In less than two weeks, 2010 will draw to a close. So what better time to look back at the real stars of this year’s motor shows: the concept cars! Enter into a world where considerations like practicality and profitability fall by the wayside and the world’s designers and engineers show us their true potential. Let’s count down...my Top 10 Concept Cars of 2010!

10. Kia POP

Kia’s POP small electric vehicle study is a designer’s wet dream: a one piece glass windscreen and roof, scissor doors and an interior that looks more like a space capsule than a car. It also offers further proof that the South Korean company has evolved from a budget buyer’s first choice into a proper, world class automaker.

9. Citroen Lacoste

Again and again, Citroen has proved that it can do concept cars like no other automaker. Alas, with so many other awesome concepts this year, the Lacoste never made it further up our list than here. Still, this beach buggy for the 21st century has some standout features like its funky LED dashboard, semi-open design and plastic-clad body.

8. Renault DeZir

Renault has never been so cool. In a perfect world, this electric two-seater would be the French automaker’s Audi R8. In reality, it’s just another fantastic shoulda-been from France’s dullest automaker (Renault Sport models notwithstanding).

7. Mercedes Benz BIOME

The BIOME is pure flight of fancy. Designed to be seeded in an orchard and grown like a cob of corn (no, really), the BIOME emits nothing but oxygen and marketing hyperbole. Am I the only one who thinks this looks a bit like the 2001 SEL from Spaceballs?

6. Peugeot EX1

Part car, part motorcycle: Peugeot’s eccentrically electric two-seat, three wheeler packs 250 kW / 340 hp between its narrow front wheels. This isn’t Peugeot’s first three wheel concept (remember 2005’s 20 Cup and 2009’s RD?) and is unlikely to be the last. Tres magnifique!

5. Lotus Elise

2010 has been a great year for Lotus concept cars, what with the Aston Martin Rapide rivalling Esterne and the relaunch of two classic nameplates in Esprit and Elan. Still, this teaser for the next-generation Elise is my favourite. 2013 can’t come too soon.

4. New Lancia Stratos

A fabulous one-off that’s drivable to boot, the new Stratos is underpinned by the same (if tweaked) 510 hp V8 that powers Ferrari’s 430 Scuderia. Designed and built by Italian design house Pininfarina, the new Statos recalls the much loved HF rally and road cars of the 1970s. Here’s hoping Pininfarina secures the licence to put this schoolboy’s wet dream into limited production.

3. Lamborghini Sesto Elemento

If there’s one 2010 concept car that divided opinion like no other, it’s Lamborghini’s Sesto Elemento. Between its stealth fighter styling, cacophony of oddly shaped intakes and outtakes and the de-saturated grey and red colour scheme, this was one of the wildest concepts to come out this year. Still, there’s no arguing with its 570 hp V10. We’ll take two.

2. Audi Quattro Concept

Raise your hand if you weren’t utterly enraptured by the rebirth of Audi’s ur-Quattro of the 1980s? No one? I thought as much. With its lightweight body, historically accurate 5-cylinder engine and 911-rivalling performance, what’s not to like? And the styling is to die for. The 1980s never looked so good.

1. Jaguar C-X75

And so here it is, my #1. 2010 had a lot of great concept cars, but none so much as Jaguar’s fabulous C-X75. Here is a gas / electric hybrid with 780 hp with a body fashioned out of texalium and vapour-blasted aluminium. This car is so cutting edge you have to wear gloves. It’s the perfect mix of exotic materials, futuristic technologies and pure styling jizz, and the top dog in our top ten.

So there you have My Top 10. What? You don't agree? Does putting a Kia on this list outrage your sensibilities? Are you disappointed that there are no American cars on the list? Is Jaguar's C-X75 and poorly conceived attempt to elevate the brand beyond its upper-class retiree roots? Let us know what you think in the comments section below.
